Magazine Genre research

In class, we have been going over the different types of genres that a magazine can be categorized by. For me, 4 genres really stood out. This blog post will go over them and the reasons why they grabbed my interest.

Sports & recreation:

The sports category can be described in many different ways. To the trophies won, games lost, career ending injuries, or the tactics that are brought into play. Its purpose will always stay the same, inform and tighten the community together. Sports time and time again have always been seen as a way to bond, whether it is within family, friends, or strangers, or for some people, it is simply a form of entertainment and rivalry.

This is an excellent example of a Sports magazine due to how it is displayed. The cover informs the reader of the best players in football history and the ways that they helped their nation succeed while creating a creative and colorful display which attracts people's attention.

Cooking, food, & beverage:

I am interested in the cooking genre since it is about experimenting, savoring, and

enjoying the food in many different ways. This genre is used to show different recipes, tips, and it can even represent cultures and their distinct foods. I like how it helps people express themselve and it is a way that cultures can exchange amongst eachother.

I like this magazine as an example because it shows the variety that food can be made into with the same of different items. It also shows the directions you could take when cooking, whether it is an easier recipe like a cake, or a harder recipe, such as ribs. You can experiment with the recipes that the magazines provide and truly express your cooking style.

Cars:

The automobile genre is targeted to a wide variety of people, this would include car investers, buyers, and more. These magazines include, and are not limited to, the latest car model, car reviews, news, and any active trend. I personally like it because cars are a way that people can express themselves, so when magazines are made, it makes it easier for someone to find the car for them.

This magazine isn't only visually pleasing, it also is a way that the brand can get recognition for their car. The information that is shown about the car also makes this magazine seem more professionally made and it is less likely to be seen as a scam by any potential buyers. These magazines are perfect when trying to find the car with the right engine, exhaust, and everything else, even the car size and year.

Teen:

My fourth and last genre is teen. This is because the Teen genre is able to capture a younger group of peoples attention, by focusing on topics that they could relate to and/or find interesting. Topics such as fashion, trends, social issues, relationships, and more. engage in the complex issues of young adults and the emerging adulthood.

This magazine is a great example, not just because it is popular amongst young adults, but also due to its view as a social platform and place to confront / learn about social issues. The way that it is able to capture what the people reading are feeling and thinking
