Before we are able to start our personal magazine, we have to go through many steps. One of these multiple steps is deciding who are audience will be. The audience for magazines is determined in the form of demographics and psychographic data. This is essential because it allows you to figure out and determine the group of people who are more then likely going to be interested in your magazine. This assignment is supposed to help me get a better idea on how to classify my audience. This is my attempt: PART 1

Firstly, I have to analyze 2 magazines that correspond to my genre. The ones that I decided to go with were World soccer and Sports Illustrated.

Magazines #1 (World soccer)

DEMOGRAPHIC

AGE: This magazine is mainly directed towards 18-45 year olds. This is because since they are older, they may be lifelong fans of certain teams or players included. There is a chance that it could attract 15-17 year olds if they are getting into the sport and are trying to learn more.

GENDER: This magazine is directed mainly towards the male population since it is featuring male competitions and players, but it could be of interest to some of the female population if they are into soccer or simply like a player.

MAIN IMAGE: The main image is a famous soccer player called "Earling Haaland". He is seen holding the ball and putting his hands up in the air as if celebrating. This can correlate with the big coverline in the center that says "AWARDS". He is also covering the Masthead a little bit, showing that he is an important player but still the main part about the article is the Awards and Competitions.

EDUCATION: Many of the individuals that read these sports articles have an education of Highschool or higher. This is because to even learn about this players in the first place it would have to be from certain TV channels or certain Social Media accounts, which many younger kids don't have access to or are not as interested in the sport. SOCIAL CLASS: As this magazine goes over events and players in the soccer world, it is most likely read by the middle class (B), Lower middle class (C1), and Skilled working class (C2). When someone is reading a magazine about a sport they are more then likely trying to find an event to which they can buy tickets or learn more about. Due to this I feel like the people that would read these magazines would have more money then the average person since they are (likely) a more involved fan and would want to meet their team or save up to do this. ETHNICITY: The ethnicity for sports magazines would be more diverse as it is targeted to fans of the sports. For this specific magazine however, I would say Asian or African national team fans are the ones that would be targeted since a main feature in this magazine is AFCON, which is a tournament in soccer for African nations.

PSYCHOGRAPHICS

INTERESTS: People interested in the global competitions, players, leagues, or specific teams. Also an in depth analysis of tactics, team performances, and players in specific.

LIFESTYLE: People that actively engage in soccer culture, what to stay updated on global sports news and developments in the soccer world, or want to participate in the sport themselves and / or wants to watch a match live.

VALUES: People that have a passion for soccer, love and cherish the idea of teamwork and hard work, or are interested in learning about the coaches, teams, and players and their stories.

Magazine #2 (World soccer)

DEMOGRAPHICS

AGE: Primarily focused on people around the ages of 16-40 years old. ages up to 55 may be included, but this would more then likely be the maximum.

GENDER: Mostly directed towards men, but can also be of interest to some female sports fans or athletes.

MAIN IMAGE: The main image of this magazine is a famous athlete, which is what most sports magazines use as the main image. This famous athlete is Jason Tatum who is seen celebrating in a passionate manner, highlighting on the themes of victory, dedication, and giving the article a bit of an emotional aspect, specially to fans of this certain team.(the Celtics in this case.) As he is a famous and star player, Tatum is able to attract NBA fans and Celtics supporters easily.

EDUCATION: The likely education level for people that would be interested in this magazine would be high school graduates or college-educated individuals that are interested in playing the sport or watching it.

SOCIAL CLASS: Basketball fans are typically middle-class (B) to upper middle class (A) as they are people who like engaging more into the basketball world by purchasing team merchandise, tickets to games, and streaming services.

ETHNICITY: The audience for sports magazines and basketball in general is pretty diverse, as basketball has a broad fan base across multiple places with different ethnicities. However, it would mainly be seen by American fans, since in other places like Europe, Asia, and Africa the fanbase for basketball is still growing.

PSYCHOGRAPHICS

INTERESTS: People interested in professional basketball, athletes, people trying to learn about the tactical side of the game, specific teams and their performance in certain matches, and / or people that have a competitive sports culture.

LIFESTYLE: The lifestyle of people who are interested in sports, or basketball in this case, would be someone who is involved in the sport as an athlete or spectator and engages in sport trends or discussions online.

VALUES: People that admire the hard work, team spirit, and athletes of a team, and those who are passionate for the sport and find it entertaining and consider it a part of their life would be into these magazines.

PART 2

Now that I am done analyzing the two magazines from the sports genre that I decided to do and their target audience, I am able to move on to my personal magazine and its target audience. Doing the other magazines was pretty easy for me and it really helped me understand target audience better and the psychographic and demographic aspects.

MY MAGAZINE'S TARGET AUDIENCE

DEMOGRAPHICS

Age: 15-45 years old

Gender: Mostly men, but can interest both genders.

Education: High school degree or higher. Social Class: A-C1, this is because soccer is a pricey sport and if someone is looking at this magazine it is because they play the sport or are a fan, which most fans buy the merchandise or tickets to the games.

Ethnicity: No ethnicity in specific will be targeted, maybe Hispanics as that is who im going to mainly be comparing to the U.S.

Psychographics

Interests: People that are passionate about soccer, beyond just watching the games, they are interested in the development and tactical side as well. Enjoys reading in-depth magazines about teams and real-life player's stories.

Lifestyle: People who read soccer-focused media, are active on social media discussions about soccer, listens to or participates in blogs or podcasts discussing certain details about the soccer world.

Values: People who believe in fairness and equality for all, values hard work and talent over privilege, is interested in learning about corruption and bias in the sports world, and / or is supportive of diversity and inclusion.

GOALS:

The goals and main idea that I have for this magazine is for it to be centered around the unfairness in the soccer world, or more specifically, the disadvantages that certain talents from certain countries have just because their country isn’t as rich and doesn’t have as many resources available. An example I will include is the U.S and then a country in South America.

IN CONCLUSION:

Overall, this assignment helped me better understand the importance of knowing who your audience will be and what will help attract them to your magazine.
